Job Description
The Health and Sports Medicine Center (HSMC) Abu Dhabi is designed to improve the health, physical performance and wellbeing of military staff.
It aims to accomplish this mission through a global, all encompassing approach to health involving the integrated work programmes of four specialised sections: Physical Education and Training; Sports and Exercise Medicine; Nutrition and Dietetics; and Health Education.
The four sections comprising the HSMC have separate purposes and, therefore, work programmes. However, considerable overlap exists between them and, consequently, each section will work together to achieve the global HSMC mission.
The purpose of the Sports and Exercise Medicine Section is to prevent, diagnose, treat and rehabilitate sports or exercise-related injuries and also uses exercise intervention to prevent and manage medical problems such as obesity. Specific duties include:

Injury management – diagnosis and rehabilitation planning

Accurate diagnosis of the injury, in terms of its site and underlying pathology

Identification of root causes, so that recurrences can be prevented (e.g. gait abnormalities, biomechanical factors, training errors, and faulty equipment)

Intensive rehabilitation directed towards the specific injury to enhance healing

Returning the individual to his pre-injury level of activity or higher through correction of the underlying problem (e.g. via strength training).

- Injury prevention – establishing protocols to reduce prevalence
- Utilising the PAR-Q and pGALS protocols, new students are screened and if any potential problems are identified then appropriate action is undertaken.
- Introduction of foot classes to strengthen the feet of students predisposed to foot problems, posture classes for back strength improvement, running classes to teach the students how to run properly and therefore avoid injuries.
The HSMC is looking for a Senior Podiatrist technically competent individuals with significant experience in sports medicine to join its team.
Assess, diagnose, treat medical and surgical conditions of the feet and lower limbs.Work in coordination with other Sections with regard to education, research and policy development. .
Duties and Responsibilities

Assess, diagnose and treat problems and diseases related to the foot and lower limb

Observe and analyze gait patterns both visually and with the aid of appropriate equipment

Prescribe, produce and fit orthotics and other aids

Maintain accurate clinical documentation and patient records

Work closely with the units’ other medical practitioners

Develop and deliver foot health education, and research, in coordination with the Health Education and Research Section

Has frequent contact with other HSMC staff including but not limited to Health Educators, Dietitians, Medical Doctors, Physiotherapists, Exercise Therapists

Regular contact with Physical Training staff

Regular contact with the sport science staff
Externally
Has occasional contact with high ranking Military Officers
Requirements
Minimum 5 years post-qualification relevant work experience.Postgraduate qualification in podiatry (minimum of Masters); excellent computer skills; understanding of Arabic language beneficial.Drivers license essential as the role is ‘mobile’.
